The Story

Capture Earth is the brainchild of fine art photographer and adventurer, Englishman Jonathan Chritchley. A Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (FRGS), instilled with a passion for Africa and its landscape and wildlife, and with 12 years experience organising high end photographic tours around the world, Jonathan decided he wanted to create an exclusive annual fine art wildlife photography event unlike anything that had been seen before. And so the idea for Capture Earth was born.

‘It was clear that the location for Capture Earth would be crucial. I wanted to secure an environment that could be exclusively booked for the event - the lodge, the park, the vehicles, everything. In November 2014 I was invited to visit Marataba Safari Lodge by its owners, and from the second I arrived I knew I had found the home for Capture Earth’, he says. ‘The setting, the standard of the accommodation and the staff, the fact that the owners were very excited by the prospect of an event such as mine, and of course, most importantly, the abundant wildlife – all the ingredients were right.’

So the whole lodge and its 23,000 hectare park were booked, and things progressed quickly. ’Next it was a matter of finding the right mix of leading photographers,’ he says. ‘Names that were of course a draw but also whose photography , characters and personalities were all the right blend to make Capture Earth a success. After much deliberation I made my shortlist of 4 photographers, emailed them and to my absolute delight they all responded quickly and favourably!’

And soon the cast was assembled – photographers and animal experts – and everything was in place to make Jonathan’s vision a reality. ‘I want to create a photography experience that will quite simply be the best there is’, he says.’ Every detail is being considered, every eventuality prepared for. This will be a special week, and hopefully one which those taking part will never forget – for the right reasons! The 2016 event sold out in under 24 hours, and certainly lived up to the expectations of our guests. The 2017 edition also sold out very quickly and both the oraganisational team and the clients are preparing themselves for a wonderful, creative week.
